This bird, called even tit (Parus caeruleus is the scientific name) is not greater than five inches, with a slim body and very bright colors. The top of the head, wings and tail are a beautiful cerulean blue, the head also has a white mask with a horizontal black stripe at eye level, while the chest is a lively yellow.
Hardly you will see the tit on the ground: this is a very lively and agile animal that loves to do stunts in the branches, facilitated in this by his little body from his legs and thin (often one sees it, in fact, being hung upside down between the sticks!).
Obviously these abilities "circus" is not used to impress us human beings (even if it's really very nice to be agile to keep this beast while hanging in the trees) but its main purpose is to look for food . The blue tit is an insectivorous bird and prefers caterpillars, spiders, aphids and other small invertebrates that is right along the branches and catching with his small, thin beak.
Despite its small size is a very voracious animal and capture many insects during the day, as a result has an important role in controlling populations of invertebrates (it may be interesting from a human point of view because many of these are of harmful pests or agriculture).
In winter, when insects are scarce, is satisfied also seeds, berries or fruit.
In February-March period begins mating: males sing more frequently during this period and the females build their nests. They are often used natural cavities as nests of squirrels, other birds' nests, holes in the walls but do not disdain obviously artificial cavities such as boxes or bird houses for the female plays with moss, wool, feathers or any suitable material. Average 8-15 eggs are laid in small, white with dark dots that are incubated for about 15 days. Then try one day for a walk in a garden, the fields, in the woods or just in a park your town, stand in silence and looked through the branches of a tree and you could see our little blue elf bouncing happily upside down.
